What year did you graduate from MGM?

2008

What was your favorite subject in high school?

History/ Government/ English

What extra-curricular activities kept you involved and busy?

Superintendent’s Advisory Council and Principal’s Advisory Council; National Honor Society

How devoted were you to your grades?

My grades were very important to me and it wasn’t until college that I finally learned knowledge is infinitely more important than As- even though I still like to get As.

Recall one fond memory about MGM.

Homecoming was always special. It was a time to show how much we loved our school and how proud we were to be Vikings.

Give one word of advice to all current MGM students.

Most importantly- Life is about choices.  Also- Live life on purpose.

What did you do immediately following high school?

Babysat and cashiered at Winn Dixie over the summer and Started college at UAB in the fall of 2008

In what job are you currently employed?

Work on campus in the international students’ office

Please provide a few details about your career.

I have plans to obtain a MA in public policy and later a law degree. Initially, I’ll start my career with the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer, implementing foreign policy and strengthening diplomacy for the US. I’d like to focus on policy efforts to create economic development in developing countries by closing the gender gap in education, health care and government leadership.

List any awards, community service/involvement, accolades.

I’m a 2011 Truman Scholar and 2011 Pickering Fellow with the State Department which both go to support graduate school for students interested in public service careers

For students interested in this career, what would you like to tell them?

Learn a critical foreign language, follow current events both domestic and international, go live in another country for part of college (not in western Europe) and email me if I can be of help.

Do you currently still have any connections to MGM or the Semmes community?

I’m still close with a number of students from my class and stay in touch with most MGM alum at UAB.

Do you have your own family—spouse, children, pets?  Feel free to elaborate.

I got my first apartment this year and it was exciting to decorate. No husband or babies yet.

Provide an interesting detail about you personally.

 I backpacked through Asia for 6 weeks by myself, seeing Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. My trip= amazing.
