Powder Puff’s Paige Vance is no Softie

Written by Kristine

Freshman Paige Vance is a girl on a traditionally boys’ field.  Paige is fourteen years old, and she wants to be a kicker for MGM’s junior varsity football team.  She wears the jersey number 26.  During her eighth grade year at Semmes Middle School, Paige played Powder Puff football.  She was surprised by how quickly she picked up the game and by how far she could kick the football.  She decided to go out for MGM’s all-boys football team.  She trained over the summer.  Paige said her favorite part of playing football for the school is having fans cheer her on.  She feels a lot of pressure since she is the only female on the team, but she wants to be a role model for girls who may try out in the future.  Paige said she does get judged plenty for being a girl and playing football with the boys, but she also added that all the players on both the JV and varsity teams are friendly to her.  Paige’s favorite college football team is the University of Alabama Crimson Tide.  While she loves Alabama, she wants to attend the University of West Florida after high school.  She said she may try out for football there too.   In addition to football, she also enjoys playing soccer and running cross country.  Paige has two younger sisters who both support their older sister’s football endeavors.
