The Beginning of the End for Class of 2012
.
Written by Brooke Bedgood and Ashley Falin
The class of 2011 has exited the building. The Class of 2012 may finally take their reign as seniors of MGM. This is the year many students have dreamed about and talked about. This is the year many students believed they would never reach. But, alas, it is the beginning of the end for the class of 2012. This is the last year to make high school memories. It is the year of “lasts.” For the class of 2012, it will be their last traditional high school homecoming, their last Prom, their last high school Friday night football games, and their last pep rallies for MGM Vikings. Senior year is a busy year, and students are constantly reminded to not let sentimentality or senioritis get in the way of graduating on time. Often students are just plain tired of school by time they reach their twelfth year. They must stick to their studies to be sure to graduate and not be distracted by all the senior activities.
To keep seniors on track to make the best of senior year, two Valkyrie Voice reporters have put together a list of tips for rising seniors.
1. Take pictures. Carry a camera with you. This will help you remember all the fun times. Students can also email those pictures to valkyrievoice@ymail.com and they may appear on the newspaper’s website or smugmug page.
2. Buy a yearbook, The Valhalla, and make everyone sign it. When signing your friends’ yearbooks, take time to write memorable things.
3. Get involved. Don’t miss the opportunity to make meaningful memories. This involvement can also prepare you for the future.
4. Save the scraps. Keep those little things that will remind you and your friends of all the fun and special times. Keep those things like ticket stubs, receipts and spirit ribbons. Soon, you will have a senior memory book to put them all in.
5. Begin thinking beyond high school. Know your priorities. Save money, make a list of top college choices, request admission, stock up on school catalogs and information. Start googling for scholarship opportunities. Take the ACT and apply for FAFSA.
6. Make plans to keep in touch. Keep an address book or notebook or the contacts in your phone open and fill it with addresses, phone numbers and emails of friends. Friend up on Facebook.
Class of 2012, it’s your show. It’s your time. Make it a year to remember.
