MGM Ensemble is Missing Mrs. Malone
MGM’s choir director/teacher and ensemble director, Mrs. Julia Malone, has missed school recently due to minor health issue. Though she has not been seen every single day by her specially-chosen ensemble, they are continuing their activities without her. Mrs. Conway has been their substitute, and she has plenty of experience as she was the choir teacher at Blount High School until her retirement. She is certified in vocal performance. On November 1, the ensemble participated in the state ensemble competition at Springhill Baptist Church. At this competition, the group competes against themselves and receives ratings from the judges. The group sang two songs, and they were both performed a capella. This is a traditionally, student-led performance with no director to lead them. The students are required to keep count in their minds while singing the song. The group was happy with their ratings from the judges, but they were even happier to see a recovered Mrs. Malone in the audience. She was able to make it to the performance to watch her group, and she plans to return to school next week.
The MGM ensemble is a special group of students who audition to be a part of the elite singers. They have to site read and perform a song they were learning in choir to be a part of the smaller ensemble. The group usually performs in places where the larger choir can not travel. The ensemble participates in community-service type activities. They have been to local nursing homes to sing as well as the Ronald McDonald House. These students meet as an ensemble only during semester for a class credit. There are currently thirteen ensemble members.
