Homecoming 2011 is Almost Here

For Homecoming 2011, MGM rallies to Lock up the Leopards. The week of September 26 through October 1 will be filled with spirit and good times. The student council and leadership classes have been busy planning this year’s events for months. Elections have already been held for the Homecoming Court 2011. MGM students met in section twice last week to decide on this year’s maids and knights. The Queen will be revealed during halftime of the homecoming game. The entire student body will vote for the queen and king on Monday, September 26 during the first few minutes of first block.
Spirit days kick off on Monday, September 26 with Jungle Day. Students can accessorize their uniforms as their imaginations take them to the jungle. Tuesday is the day when students may accessorize their uniforms with their favorite colors. Black and columbia blue will be predominate on Tuesday. Wednesday is superhero and villain day. Accessorize to save or destroy the world. Thursday is decade day, and the classes will be distinguishable. Seniors will represent the eighties; juniors will represent the seventies. The sophomores will go sixties, and the freshmen will follow up with the fifties. Students will accessorize their school uniform with trends from their decades. Friday, as tradition holds, will be Spirit Day. Wear your black and blue and all your Viking spirit on Friday. Homecoming T-shirts may be worn on this day. Feel free to sport a spirit tattoo on your face, but for school, there should be no solid face paint. Please remember, students must be in full, appropriate uniform all week and can only accessorize to accommodate spirit days.
If a student is feeling the super spirit, he/she may compete to be named Mr or Miss Spirit 2011. Students who would like to be considered for this honor must download a form at www.mgmleadership.com or pick up a registration form outside of room 405. The participants need to have their pictures taken each day in the cafeteria during his/her lunch wave. At the end of the week, a Mr. and Miss Spirit will be chosen for each grade level and recognized at the pep rally.
Students may purchase homecoming tshirts which will be considered school spirit shirts and can be worn on Fridays. The shirts will be on sale from September 7-13 for $15 outside of the cafeteria doors during lunch.
This year, MGM will see a new event in honor of homecoming. A parade will be held around campus for all students on the afternoon of Friday, September 30. More details on the parade will be issued at a later date, but the early plan is to have students join in at the end of the parade and end up in the football stadium for the pep rally and assembly. Each class is responsible for a float, and many other participants will parade in front of the student body.
The football game will be held Friday night, September 30 against the Blount Leopards. Kick off is at 7:00 P.M.. Before the game, the MGM Alumni Association will greet MGM graduates in a special tent set up for the occasion,and the class of 1991 will be recognized for their twentieth class reunion.
The homecoming dance is the biggest social event scheduled for MGM students each year. Dressed in semi-formal attire, students will arrive at the Abba Temple Shrine on Saturday, October 1 at 7:00 P.M. The dance is over at 11:00 P.M. Only students who have turned in a signed waiver opting into the drug testing program will be allowed to purchase dance tickets. The tickets may be purchased September 26-29. These tickets are $25 per person, and if they are not purchased during the pre-sale dates, the prices double at the door of the dance. Hold on to those tickets. No refunds will be given, and lost tickets will not be reissued. Procedures for date permission slips will be available by listening to morning announcements or reading the leadership website.
